Today, the Senate Finance Committee voted unanimously to delay the enforcement of the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (“HWFA”).
The HWFA was supposed to to go into effect on February 11, 2018, however, the Senate Finance Committee voted to postpone the law until July 1, 2018, based on a bill introduced by the chair of the Committee, Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton. The bill’s primary purpose was to provide more time for businesses to prepare to comply with the new law.
The full Senate could take a vote on the bill as early as Monday evening.
